Exercise 2

Be sure to complete project in Word. Do not use Google Docs.

Set up computer's windows so you can see the directions and Word side-by-side.

Objective:

In this lesson you will learn:

• Change the format of a paragraph

• Change the color of text

• Use the Highlighter

• Indent paragraphs on the left and the right

• Print Preview

A. Set up new document

  1. Log into your Student Server through "GO" on the computer's desktop.

  2. Open a New Document in Microsoft Word

  3. Insert your header and footers as indicated in the previous lesson: Exercise 1 (Go back to the Exercise 1 if you don't remember how to do this)

  4. Save AS: Date-LastName-MSWord Ex2 in your STUDENT SERVER, COMAPPS QTR 2 folder.

B. Changing the Format of a Paragraph:

  1. Type in the paragraph to the right: Don't hit return;
    let the program's wordwrap work for you.

  2. Click the Save icon.

  3. Change the Color of the Text by
    a. Select the 1st sentence
    b. Click on the down arrow beside the
    font color button on the Formatting toolbar.

    c. Choose a color to change your text to that
    is not white.

    You will notice when you click outside of your text that the
    color of your text has changed to your chosen color.

    d. Change the first three words back to the default black color.
    e. Select the quote “Information Age"

    • change font to RED,

    • italicize it

    • change font size to 14 

  4. Click Save icon.

C. Highlighting Text Digitally

1. Type in the following paragraph.

  • Bold and italicize where indicated.

  • Let the program wordwrap for you.

2. Click Save.

3. Select "Stepped Reckoner" in the paragraph

  • Highlight (not just select, make it have a highlight/colored background even when your cursor is somewhere else) it in a color of your choice (but not black/dark)
    TO highlight: Use the same procedure as changing the text color, except you use the highlight button.

D. Indent a Paragraph on the Left and the Right

1. Type in the following paragraph, Bold and Italicize where indicated. Let the program wordwrap for you.

  1. Click Save icon.

  2. Select the entire new paragraph 

  3. on the Tabs bar, click on Layout tab

  4. In the Indent section
    -change the left to  1.0"
    -change the right to 0.1" 

  5. Change the Line Spacing to Double. Click OK.
    By selecting only the last paragraph the new indentions and spacing should apply to it only.

  6. Click the Save icon. 

E. Print Preview:

             No actual printing, DO NOT CLICK PRINT: just preview it.

Always save and preview your document before printing. 

This saves a lot of paper and ink (and trees & money),

----when you see something you don’t like or want, you change before it's printed.

  1. Click on View Tab

  2. Click on One Page

  3. Click ZOOM and change to 50%.

  4. Click on Zoom to 100% 
     Note: If your document is more than one page, you can choose Multiple Pages to see all pages at once with no scrolling.

  5. Click the Save icon.

F. Save as a PDF:

Sometimes you may want to send a document that is non-editable to others.
PDF format allows for documents to be printed and viewed, but not changed or altered easily.

From Word's top FILE menu
             (NOTE: It's not on the tabs, it's by the Apple icon on the extremely highest top of the screen.
See picture to right.)

  1. Go to SAVE AS

  2. Choose PDF (in Export Formats)

  3. The name of the file should be Date-lastName-MSWord2 already. Do not change it.

  4. Check to be sure it is saving to your Q2 StuServ folder

  5. Click Save.

  6. Exit /close Word.

  7. Upload the PDF version, not the .docx version, to your school's Google Drive ComApps Qtr 2 folder and share with me (COMMENT ONLY) for a grade.
